Vaccination and Mask Policy for Broadway Shows in NYC

Face masks will become optional for audience members attending Broadway shows beginning July 1, according to The Broadway League.

Mask guidelines for August and beyond will be announced mid-July, with the possibility for future month-by-month updates as the continuing struggles with COVID-19 are monitored. The announcement does not affect non-Broadway theatres, leaving Off-Broadway companies and other theatres to set their own policies. Theatregoers should consult the official show website or point of purchase for up-to-date information about COVID protocols for the show (or shows) they will be attending.

Many theatres may no longer require that audience members provide proof of vaccination. Please consult the show website or point of purchase for information about proof of vaccination requirements for your show.

If vaccinations are required at your theater, this means:

Under the Broadway League's policy, guests age 5 and older will need to be vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine. Guests age 18 and over must present a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport. Guests 12-17 may use a government-issued ID or school ID - no photo required. Guests ages 5 – 11 may enter the theatre only when accompanied by an adult who complies with the theatre’s vaccination entry requirements.

For international guests TWO doses of any “mix and match” combination of an FDA or WHO approved COVID-19 vaccine are acceptable.

Guests under 5, when accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult may enter the theatre with ONE of the following:
A negative COVID-19 PCR test performed by a medical provider within 72 hours of the performance start time. The test results must clearly show the date and time of the test; OR
A negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test taken within 6 hours of the performance start time. The test results must clearly show the date and time of the test.

The Metropolitan Opera requires that all audience members are fully vaccinated in order to attend a performance, including children ages 5-11. All audience members will also be asked to sign a COVID waiver.

If you are unable to attend a Met performance for any reason, you will be eligible for a complimentary exchange into a future performance.
